Our History

ComForCare was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The year was 1996. Founder Mark Armstrong took a close look at the emerging home care industry, feeling a deep sense that “We can do this better.” Forging ahead with dedication, compassion and a sole mission to help clients live an authentic lifestyle through in-home care, ComForCare helped older adults as well as people with disabilities to maintain their independence and give their families peace of mind.

30 Years In The Making

In three decades, many things have changed. Thanks to franchising, ComForCare is now able to help more people to thrive as we have opened local offices throughout the United States and Canada, operating in 37 states and 4 provinces totaling 331 territories! Our network of professional caregivers has grown, but they are still matched with our clients to provide a relationship that will last.

1996: ComForCare was founded

ComForCare was founded by Mark Armstrong, an early entrant in the in-home senior care industry, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. His mission to provide better in-home care senior services drove the company forward.

2001: ComForCare began franchising

ComForCare began franchising, allowing entrepreneurs to operate their own locations.

2005: ComForCare became At Your Side in Houston, TX

2012: ComForCare Launches DementiaWise® 1.0

ComForCare Launches DementiaWise® 1.0, an occupation-based, team-centered training program, which serves to help home care teams resolve dementia-related challenges collaboratively with clients and their families.

2017: ComForCare was acquired

ComForCare was acquired by private equity firm The Riverside Company.

2017: ComForCare launched CaregiverFirst

ComForCare launched CaregiverFirst, a program dedicated to putting caregivers first and improving their experience with our agency through improved hiring, onboarding and retention best practices, making us an employer of choice.

2018: First Caregiver of the Year Shirley Norwood, NC

2019: ComForCare Launches DementiaWise® 2.0

ComForCare Launches DementiaWise® 2.0, an advanced training module delving deeper into the stages of dementia to tailor care strategies specific to each stage.

2020: ComForCare Launches Gaitway

ComForCare Launches Gaitway, a program that minimizes the risk of falls for older adults living at home, to assess fall risks and providing tools to stay safe.

2025: ComForCare launches Parkinson’s Pathway

Parkinson’s Pathway: A care program grounded in four essential pillars: medication management, movement, nutrition, and emotional / behavioral support, offering practical strategies to address the full spectrum of challenges associated with Parkinson’s.
